Local Voice Search

With the advancement in technology the ways of doing things are changing from traditional practices. Voice search is evolving, rather than just tying for what they are looking for, people are also doing voice search. The reason behind this is the ease of use it provides to its user. People can now easily search for new products, services, places, or whatever they like without using their keypad. So, it is the need of the hour that local businesses now optimize their business for voice search so that their product and services show up on the top of Apple, Google, Alexa, and Cortana results.

When it comes to voice search via Smart Speaker, Amazon (Echo Dot) leads the way. Around 70% of the US Smart Speaker market is controlled by Amazon. Whereas Siri and Google lead the Virtual Assitance market. Smart Speakers and Virtual Assitance have created huge opportunities for local businesses to attract customers.  Here are the things a business can do to optimizing its products and services for voice search.

Take charge of your digital footprint:

Voice search incorporates a lot of information to give you the results, but they are highly dependent on trusted sources which use citations to provide correct information to their users. So, the question is where the local business should be cited for easy access. The answer is that voice search depends upon various data collectors. For example Google Assistant uses Google searches and Alexa uses Bing to search. Here are the data sources where your business needs to be up-to-date and cited properly. You need to optimize your business through the hierarchy of search engines such as Alexa, Siri, Cortana, and Google assistant.

Optimize for Siri:

Siri has a market share of approximately 36%. For this you have to improve your results in Google, Apple Maps, and last but not least Yelp because Apple categorically gets a lot of photos and reviews from yelp.

  • Search: Google
  • Business listing: Apple maps
  • Reviews: Yelp

Optimize for Alexa:

Alexa’s market share is about 70% in smart speakers but overall their share is about 25% in all voice searches. For getting a better rank in Alexa, you have to improve your rankings in Bing, Yext and yelp.

  • Search: Bing
  • Business listings: Yelp and more recently Yext
  • Reviews: Yelp

.

Optimize for Google Assistant:

Google Assistant provides the easiest voice search and therefore shares 36% of the market. It gets all the local business reviews from Google my Business, unlike Siri and Alexa. It gets all its search results from Google.

Optimize for Cortana:

Cortana has a market share of about 20% and business optimization here is also done through Yelp for local business reviews.
